When Celey Dobbs met Daniel Tilman; was it chance or God, that brought them together in the unsettled region of Scott County, Arkansas?
Heritage Series Volume
II
We first met Celey in the story of Emma, her
granddaughter. Now join Celey and her family as they journey
through the untamed prairies of Illinois, the violent beginnings of
the state of Arkansas, and the wild frontier of
Texas.
Celey's story is based on letters written by
the author's maternal Great-great-great-grandmother, detailing
events in her life.
"A slow rain fell as Celey walked from the
graveyard, her tears mingling with the tears of
God.
In the distance, she saw Tom Anderson. Her
heart raced, and her anger flared. How dare that rotten scoundrel
show his face here!"
Much of the story is fiction but as always,
threads of truth are woven through the tapestry.
It is up to the reader to decide what is fact,
and what is fiction.
Celey is a heartwarming story of family and
faith. Filled with laughter and tears, it offers a well-rounded
experience for the reader. Celey's adventures don't end in Arkansas
- join the family as they move to Texas and the stage is set for
the story of Melinda.
Be prepared to laugh, cry, cheer on the good
guys, and root against the bad guys. Celey has it all!
“Celey had paid for their purchase, and they were just about to step outside when Tom Anderson blocked their way and said, You’re the Dobbs girls. Celey kept her eyes down and said softly Yes, sir. Please, excuse us, sir. Mother had taught her to be polite, no matter who it was. As she tried to step past him, he spoke again in a menacing voice; You better tell your papa that he’s gonna be right sorry if he don’t sell me that land.
Celey’s dark brown eyes
grew wide, and her heart sped up. The man scared her.
She tried again to step past him, but he blocked her way. She
glanced around, looking for an escape, but could find none.
Not knowing what else to do, she turned to retreat into the store
and ran into someone standing directly behind her. Her panic
grew, thinking it must be one of Anderson’s cronies. She
started to call out to Mr. Chambers, then she heard a deep voice
say, Anderson, move along;
you’re blocking these ladies’ way. She
raised her eyes and saw two young men standing, shoulder to
shoulder, eyes stern, as they waited for the man to
move.”

"Celey by Susan Diane
Black Blackmon is an American historical fiction novel set in the
nineteenth century. Blackmon transports readers back in time to a
family not unlike many of our own. Celey's story is one of
persistence, faith, and the unyielding American spirit that keeps
hope alive, even in the darkest of times. As a child, Celey Dobbs
moved from Illinois to a farming community in Waldron, Arkansas
during the mid-1800s with her family. When the town's notorious
black sheep, Tom Anderson, starts making trouble for the Dobbs
family and their neighbors, Daniel Tilman and his family step in to
protect Celey and her kin from Andersons' dastardly schemes. Her
story begins here and weaves a wondrous tapestry of love and loss,
pain and redemption, family and lasting friendships.
Susan Diane Black Blackmon instantly pulled me into the story of
Celey and before long I felt as if her story was a glance into my
story as well! Her family wasn't wealthy, but were rich in love and
had everything they needed, all provided by God. I loved the simple
way of life. It is portrayed here as not lacking, but natural and
full of unexpected blessings. This is a story of great pain and
greater restoration as her family weathers the storms of life. The
firm bonds of friendship and community that only grow stronger as
the family draws closer is a beautiful testament, and one I felt
strongly throughout Celey's story. Celey is a heartfelt and
poignant story that's impossible to put down and sure to delight
readers!"
